We are so excited to have you in our class this year! Some of you will be in class learners and some of you will be Distance Learners.  Hopefully, we will all be back in a regular classroom environment soon. You will learn many new things in second grade and should make new friends this year!




Daily Writing Prompts:

Monday: What do you want to learn in 2nd grade?

Tuesday: In 10 years, you will be graduating from high school.  What will you be doing?  Where will you be going?

Wednesday: Make a list of 5 favorite foods and 5 favorite activities you enjoy doing with friends.

Please have your child spend a few minutes this week on practicing their typing skills.

Mrs. Sandra Polk and I are so happy that you are in our "PAD" this year!

Education: I was educated in the public schools in the Mississippi Delta.  I received my Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education  from the University of Southern Mississippi and my Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from    Ole Miss! I love my Ole Miss Rebels-----Football here we come!!!!!!!!

Experience: I have taught school for 44 years and recently retired from Shelby County Schools.  I taught at Walls Elementary 28 years ago for several years.  I have taught in Mississippi, New Mexico, Texas, and Tennessee.  I love teaching and was inspired by first grade teacher, Mrs. Craig, to teach.  It was a great thrill for me, the day she sat in my class and watched me teach!

Bio: My name is Deborah Jenkins Smith, and I am from Marks, Mississippi.  I have been a teacher for 44 years, and I have a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood from the University of Southern Mississippi and a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Ole Miss.  I live in Memphis and drive down each day with a fellow teacher.  My husband, Phil, and I have one daughter, Ginny,   9 grandchildren ranging from 5 and a half months to 21 years old.  They are my heart and soul!  I love teaching and wouldn't do anything else!  This school year, 2020-2021, will certainly go down in the history books! I hope that all of my students had a wonderful Spring Break!  Spring is definitely in the air! Flowers are blooming and bees are buzzing!
